The modern bar cart

With Christmas and New Years Eve fast approaching, a beautiful bar cart makes for a smart investment in the silly season.

Now more than ever, the at-home bar has become an essential survival tool. A well-stocked cart should have everything at your fingertips to make staple, classic cocktails. First on your shopping list? A mixing glass, peeler, strainer, spoon, jigger and bottle opener. Next, focus on your glassware. Different cocktails require different glasses, however a fine glass tumbler can be a good all-rounder if you want to start simple.

The cart itself is, of course, going to be the focal point. Carts with wheels are handy as they can be moved according to your needs - it doesn't hurt to be able to move it back to a kitchen or area with a hard floor if you have guests and things are starting to get a little messy as the night goes on. A modern, minimal cart makes a great backdrop for accessories of any style - like a blank canvas.

Finally, don't forget to invest in an ice bucket. Ice is to a bartender what salt is to a chef. Once your home bar is stocked and ice at the ready, you can move on to the most important part - the drinks. Stuck for ideas? We suggest mixing up a batch of Martinis. Harriet Leigh of of Sydney’s Archie Rose Distilling Co shows the way.
