Southern Highland's charm, a look at the new Osborn House.

Osborn House is the type of chic regional getaway that one finds regularly in Europe but rarely in Australia.

Osborn House is the type of chic regional getaway that one finds regularly in Europe but rarely in Australia. The understated glamour, the bar-serviced hot tub overlooking rolling hills, the cocktail hour by the fire - there’s not much like it, and we like it very much.

Yet Osborn House also feels unmistakably Australian, perhaps it's the abundance of RMs on the staff, the windy drive through the Southern Highlands on approach, or the recent local artist in residence Jai Vasicek’s colourful canvases dotting the hallway - this hotel and hospitality retreat has a personality all of its own.

The original property dates back to the 1890’s in the quaint town of Bundanoon, about 2.5 hours drive from Sydney. Ex Soho House design director Linda Boronkay is responsible for the luxe upgrade that has created an ultra stylish yet comfortable experience.

The 22 rooms vary from suites to garden terraces but we recommend the private cabins with a log fire, martini bar and outdoor bathtub. The food is led by a South American chef Segundo Farrell, working with local produce, he sprinkles a little of his roots (try the beef and egg empanadas) through the menu. Attentive service, stunning views and notable food and beverage make Osborn House an instant leader in the field, and let’s hope there’s more like this to come.
